Stockholm, Sweeden June 18 2015

Today we are arriving in the beautiful city of Stockholm, Sweeden.  I was here in 2010 on the Disney Magic and am looking forward to another visit to the homes of vikings and queens!

Stockholm is a city built on 14 islands connected by 57 bridges and Lake Malaren flows out into the Baltic Sea and the Stockholm Archipelago which has over 24,000 islands, islets and skerries of which only about 1,000 are inhabited.

Stockholm is designated as the very first European Green Capital.  It has the first National City Park in the world, which is a green space that breathes for the city.

We arrive in Stockholm at 9:30 a.m.  It is raining lightly, be we are spending a good portion of our day inside, so that might work out okay.  Once again our Adventures by Disney family meets in Animator's Palate at 9:15 a.m.  We are first off the ship and head right to the Royal Armoury which is still closed.  We have a private tour before it opens to the public for the day.

We head to the tunnels below to view the beautiful carriages that the Royal Family has used over the years.

Next we head to the Cathedral of Stockholm.

The Stockholm Cathedral is a cultural heritage whose origins go back to the 13th century.  The cost of maintaining it is five Crowns per minute -- around the clock, around the year.

Next we go to lunch and have Swedish Meatballs and mashed potatoes that I have to say were the best mashed potatoes I think I have ever eaten.

A rich chocolate brownie with cream and strawberries, yummy!

Next we visit City Hall which is absolutely stunning

This reminds me for some reason of the Beauty and the Beast staircase.  This is the hall where they serve 1300 guests when they award the Nobel Peace Prize winners.

Then we go the the Ostermalmstorg Food Market.  I purchased some reindeer jerky!  Don't the cakes and chocolate truffles just look amazing?  The green ones are key lime!

Next we are off to the Vasa Museum.  This is Scandinavia's most popular museum and is the only intact 17th Century ship ever salvaged.  On August 10, 1628 the Vasa set sail on her maiden voyage and sank 40 minutes later in the Stockholm harbour.

The wreck was salvaged in 1961 after 333 years under the sea. The reconstructed vessel is 98 percent original and is splendidly adored with hundreds of carved sculptures.

There is a 17 minute film on the Vasa and the salvaging of her in 1961.  I highly recommend seeing this film.

Does the ship remind you of anything?

It's time to head back to the ship.  It is raining again (but it has been a warmer day).  The scenery is beautiful as we sail away back to the sea.

At 6:30 p.m. Junnk is performing in the Walt Disney Theater.  Great show.  I highly recommend seeing them if you are on board!

The Freezing the Night Away Deck Party has been moved from 9:45 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. this cruise.  So you come straight from dinner up to deck or come to the party and then do dinner after.  The party is 30 minutes long.  Even cruise director Natalie and assistant cruise director Carly get into the fun of the evening.  As you can tell, everyone is bundled up, it is kinda raining lightly during the celebration.

Dinner tonight is in Animator's Palate.  It is the Drawn to Magic show.  Here is some of our artwork.

Next we are off to Fathom's for the Freezing the Night Away Adult Party.  There is a luge out of ice that they make drinks on.  Lots of fun!

Time to call it a night.  Head back to the stateroom and watch the Nicole Kidman movie about the big eyes.  It was a different kind of film.

A much needed sea day is tomorrow!  Yippee!
