Molde, Norway June 25 2015

Today we arrived in Molde (pronounced Mold-da by our tour guide for the day).  From our pier in Molde we have a very picturesque panoramic view of the 222 high mountains that surround this small town.  28,000 people live here. This is the first visit by the Disney Magic to Molde.

The town is built on a small isthmus, a narrow strip of land connecting the town with mainland Norway.  In 1940 , Molde was bombarded by invaders.  The Royal family members hid themselves in the forest under birch trees.  Two-thirds of the town was destroyed in these attacks.

Molde has its’ own rose named the Molde.  The town hosts the oldest international jazz festival in Europe in July.

Today we are booked on the Atlantic Ocean Road. The Atlantic road was voted the Norwegian Construction of the Century in 2005. It is built on bridges and landfills across small islands and skerries, and spans from the small communities of Vikan and Vevang to Averøy.

We first stopped in Bud.  This is an old fishing village in western Norway. The 0.69-square-kilometre (170-acre) village has a population of 760. Bud Municipality existed from 1838 until 1964.

Then we headed to the Atlantic road portion of the tour.  It is kinda cold and windy today and the water is pretty low at the ocean, so there was not much activity.

I have to say this was probably my least favorite port of all the ports we have been in.  Don’t know why, but nothing impressed me that much (including our excursion).  I guess if we were here in the fall when there is lots of wave action on the Atlantic Road it would be more exciting.

However, when we returned to the ship there were three ladies handing out roses to welcome us back from Molde.  That was kinda nice.

Hector is Magic is playing in the Walt Disney Theater, however we have dinner reservations at 6 p.m. in Palo so we do not make it to the show tonight.

There are 8 of us eating in Palo:  Pete and Faith, Bob and Dale, Bill and Liz and Elaine and I.  We get to eat in the private dining room because it is not booked tonight.  There are three entrees’ that are not on the menu.  One of them is Salmon.  I think four of us had the salmon for dinner.  It was delicious.
It is also Bill and Liz's anniversary.

Andrea took wonderful care of us.  Today is Alvin and Amphie’s 20th wedding anniversary.  I stopped by and gave Amphie a couple of roses from Molde and gave Alvin a card for the two of them.

It was quite late when we got done in Palo.  We have an early morning excursion, so we are headed off to bed.
